imec performs world-leading research in nano-electronics technologies and applications. In 2018, their current PV research activities will be transferred from their facilities in Leuven to the greenfield location in Waterschei (Genk).
The new 7,000 m2 building comprises cleanrooms, laboratories, a warehouse, offices and technical and facility areas. The building also includes a dedicated dry lab function in which the relative humidity is controlled at very low levels.
Based on a careful analysis of processes, logistics and process equipment requirements, Deerns and their partners developed a design that is both flexible and adaptable. Deerns also carried out the environmental permitting, considering the PV process requirements and local rules and conditions.
