Radboud University Medical Centre is a leading academic centre for patient care, education and research. Deerns designed and supervised the completion of the Medical Innovation & Technology Expert Center (MITeC).
The introduction of the MITeC operating theatres (OTs) brings together operating, 3D X-Ray photography and MRI. One of the capabilities of the new MITeC OTs is the MRI analysis of tissue removed during surgery, which can assist in determining the precise extent and location of surgery required.
One of the key objectives was the creation of a patient-friendly environment. Challenges facing the Deerns consultants included the concealment of MEP systems and the efficient transfer of patients from the hybrid OT to the MRI OT. Through consultation with the facility’s staff and analysis of the medical processes Deerns was able to develop a thorough understanding of technical requirements and provide valuable advice on the design and construction of the facilities.
