Energy-efficient lighting & LED lighting

Over 20% of the energy consumption in built-up environments is dedicated to lighting systems. This means that there is a large potential for savings here. New technologies provide us with the opportunity to further reduce the energy consumption of lighting systems. Take, for example, (O)LED technology, new systems that utilise more daylight, and advanced light-management and switching systems.

ISSO

The integrated approach taken by Deerns when designing building-related systems, in combination with ample experience and knowledge of these new technologies, will result in low energy consumption, increased sustainability, and low operating costs. To indicate how much energy may be saved by lighting, Deerns has contributed to the ISSO publication no. 90: ‘Energy-efficient lighting in and around buildings’.

LED

The development of the LED (light emitting diode) in the world of lighting continues to evolve dramatically. LEDs are increasingly used to replace existing lighting technologies entirely. Over the past years, Deerns has been gaining a lot of experience in designs that incorporate LEDs as a light source. The application of this relatively new light source is resulting in old standards and rules slowly becoming obsolete. However, standardisation bodies, such as NEN and IEC, do not, as yet, have clear guidelines for LEDs regarding energy consumption, light output, and life span. This does not make it any easier to compare LED lighting to conventional lighting systems. That is why it has proven to be essential to build up new knowledge and skills in this area.
